Last night, the First Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, announced on Cuban TV the new decisions taken by the Cuban government in view of the advance of the Covid-19, and he called on the people to cooperate in complying with the measures adopted recently.
In this struggle for life, without alarm or despair, we have to worry and occupy ourselves, and as in other battles, we will win with unity, effort and, above all, with the support of our people, the Prime Minister assured.
Marrero Cruz began his appearance with an acknowledgement to our people for their contribution, from their opinions, suggestions and even criticism, which have been taken into account in the decision making process. At the same time, he highlighted the enthusiasm and understanding that can be seen since last Friday’s announcement of the new measures to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 in the country.
Since then, he said, there has been an advance in prevention and control; however, it still persists in a sector of the population with a low perception of risk and indiscipline, mainly related to the presence of people in the streets unnecessarily and in open nightclubs with large concentrations, especially from the private sector.
Each of these issues, he stressed, has been pointed out by the population and has formed the basis for the adoption of relevant measures.
The Head of Government announced that, by decision of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, it was decided to activate the Provincial Defense Councils, and some municipalities that require it, in a reduced composition, with the aim of carrying out the necessary prevention and control actions to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Similarly, on behalf of the Party, the Presidency of the country, the National Assembly of People’s Power, and the entire Government, he called for unity, in view of the advance of the new coronavirus.
If we don’t comply with the measures, the situation could become more complicated, he said. We have an effective and experienced health system, but we need the support of the people and institutions. Isolation is the most effective thing, to stay at home and go out alone to what daily life imposes on us. This is a question of social responsibility, he said
To the most vulnerable, the little old people, he asked them to stay home. He said that social distancing is essential; as well as maintaining the measures that have been reported, such as washing hands, cleaning surfaces and everything we touch: the phone, the door, the key?
That, he acknowledged, constitutes a sacrifice and a change in habits, among other limitations, but they are necessary for the health of all and for tomorrow.
He also announced that economic measures are being adopted, giving priority to service and productive activities, while he indicated that health audiences will be transmitted by television with updated messages and that indications have been given to improve daily conferences on the progress of the new coronavirus.
With respect to the television programming, he explained that the experience of the summer has been taken into account, so that our people have adequate entertainment in their homes.
Along with all this, he emphasized, control measures will be tightened and may even be drastic for those who violate the established rules.
On behalf of the Army General and the Government, he thanked the personnel working in health, the border, tourism, all the people who have collaborated in complex missions, and particularly the people, the protagonists of this battle, for their support and trust.
These are difficult times, he reiterated, but we revolutionaries grow in these circumstances. It is time for all of us to join together and act with unity.
This people, remarked Manuel Marrero, has faced the blockade and many difficulties. The main weapon has been resistance, confidence in the Revolution, and we have always won as we will do on this occasion.
And in his final words he evoked the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, with his glorious “Homeland or Death, we shall overcome”; Che, with his conviction “Until victory always” and Raul, who has always said that “Yes we could, yes we can and always we will”.
