Tropical cyclone warning No 12: Dorian reaches category two
Havana, Aug 30 (ACN) Hurricane Dorian continued to gain in intensity and now has sustained maximum winds of up to 165 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts, making it a category two hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale of a maximum of five.
At six o’clock in the morning the Dorian center was estimated at 23.9 degrees North latitude and 69.2 degrees West longitude, a position that places it about 335 km northeast of the Turks and Caicos Islands in the southern Bahamas. Dorian has a minimum central pressure of 979 hectopascal and maintains its northwest course at a rate of 19 kilometers per hour.
For the next 12-24 hours Hurricane Dorian will continue with a similar course and travel speed, turning west northwest tonight. The dangerous Dorian will continue to gain intensity for a category three hurricane this afternoon as it approaches the Northern Bahamas.
The next tropical cyclone warning on this system will be issued at 6 p.m. this Friday.
