Sandinismo, virtual winner of regional elections in Nicaragua
The Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) is the virtual winner of the elections in the autonomous regions of the Northern and Southern Caribbean coasts of Nicaragua, according to data announced today by the Supreme Electoral Council (CSE).
In the first part of the preliminary results, the FSLN leads with 61.11 percent of votes in favor of the ballots counted, said CSE magistrate vice-president Lumberto Campbell.
So far 677 of the 1,137 voting tables have been counted, which means that 97,184 ballots have been revised, 94,908 of which are valid. He detailed the process in which the population of the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua elected 90 councillors.
In the Northern Caribbean region the FSLN leads with 39,662 votes, and in the Southern Caribbean with 18,332, escorted by the Constitutional Liberal Party, which counts just over six thousand votes in each department, according to information published by the CSE on its website.
Campbell pointed out that there are only less than half of the voting tables left in the count, so in the part scheduled for today, at 18:00 local time, the final results must be given.
The magistrate congratulated the families of the North and South Caribbean regions for the ‘civic and orderly’ way in which they went to the centers to exercise the vote, also recognized the effort of all those who worked in the process and highlighted the participation of the parties represented in the ballots.
He also thanked the state institutions, in particular the National Police and the Nicaraguan Army, for their commitment to strengthening democracy and peace.
The final results of the elections in the autonomous regions of the Northern and Southern Caribbean coasts of Nicaragua will be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Nicaragua.
