Documents on U.S. Vice President’s dealings with Ukraine requested

Washington, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) Three House committees today asked U.S. Vice President Mike Pence to deliver documents related to his involvement in the country’s President Donald Trump’s interactions with Ukraine.

As part of the impeachment investigation launched by the Lower House against the Republican ruler, the Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight panels asked Pence to deliver the materials by October 15.

The inquiry focuses on calls by the White House chief to his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, to investigate former Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, who could be Trump’s rival in the 2020 elections.

Democrats believe that the U.S. ruler abused the power of his office to pressure a foreign country to harm a political opponent, in what would be interference in U.S. elections.

Recently, public reports have raised questions about any role you may have played in conveying or reinforcing the president’s clear message to his Ukraine counterpart, the headlines of all three committees wrote in a letter to Pence.

Your failure or refusal to comply with the request, even under the direction or by order of the president or the White House, will constitute evidence of obstruction of justice in the impeachment investigation,” they warned.

The Washington Post reported this week that Trump repeatedly involved Pence in his attempts to pressure Zelensky to investigate Biden and his son Hunter, who was a board member of a Ukrainian natural gas company when his father was a U.S. vice president.

According to the newspaper, Trump told his vice president not to attend Zelensky’s inauguration in May and had Pence tell the Ukrainian that U.S. aid to Ukraine was being withheld while he demanded more aggressive action to investigate the corruption.

The committees also requested documents related to a telephone conversation between Pence and Zelensky on Sept. 18, and asked how much the vice president knew about the decision to withhold military assistance to Ukraine.
