Cuban Parliament condemns unjust imprisonment of Lula

The International Relation Commission of the Cuban Parliament today condemned the political, judicial and media persecution against former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and rejected his unjust imprisonment.

Lula is the victim of a vengeance of the oligarchy and imperialism, which seek to eliminate his political and moral leadership, capable of leading a true process of change favorable to the marginalized sectors of Brazilian society,’ said the declaration approved today, Friday.

According to the text, the imprisonment of the Brazilian leader seeks to discredit and dismantle the social and economic advances achieved under his leadership, and to criminalize the forces that support him.

The International Relation Commission of the Cuban Parliament appeals to the honest parliamentarians of the American continent and the world to demand Lula’s release and to express all their solidarity with the just claims of the Brazilian people, according to the document.

Two days ago, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raúl Castro, reiterated the solidarity of the Island with the Brazilian leader, who has served an unjust year of imprisonment.

We demand his freedom, he sentenced when he delivered the speech proclaiming the new Constitution of the Republic Wednesday.

On April 7, Lula completed a year of imprisonment, victim of partial justice and at the service of political interests, with a sentence of 12 years and one month imposed by the Federal Regional Court of the fourth region for alleged acts of corruption.
