China to award Friendship Medal to Raúl
Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, will receive the Friendship Medal of the People’s Republic of China within the framework of the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of that Asian country.
According to a report by Xinhua, Chinese President Xi Jinping signed on Tuesday, a presidential decree to grant national medals and honorary titles to 42 individuals from the country and abroad, among which are the Medal of the Republic, the Medal of Friendship and other titles, also approved on September 17 by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Assembly of China in a special session.
Raul is one of the six foreign personalities who will be awarded the Friendship Medal, China’s highest state honor bestowed on friends of other nations for their great contributions in support of China’s socialist modernization, in promoting exchanges and cooperation between the Asian giant and other countries, and in safeguarding world peace.
The presentation of this important distinction to the Army General ratifies the excellent state of relations between China and Cuba. As Raúl said at the meeting of leaders from China and Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Brasilia on July 17, 2014: “More than half a century of exchanges with that country has allowed us to advance in the full development of an exemplary relationship that has passed the test of time.
