The Houses of Culture or Culture Halls (Casas de cultura)

In January 1978, Resolution No. 8 was issued, creating the System of Culture Houses, which will be technically and methodologically subordinated to the Ministry of Culture, through the Direction of Cultural Orientation and Extension and the Direction of Amateur Artists. They are Community cultural center, designed to maintain activities that promote culture among its inhabitants.

With the creation of the Houses of Culture, a broad incorporation of the population is achieved, especially of young artistic and creative values in the rescue and development of the national cultural identity.

In 1978, the National System of Culture Houses was formalized, which as cultural institutions of the community, became the radiating center of culture in the municipalities, representing a special support for the development of the Movement of Amateur Artists (MAA). There are currently more than 300 Culture Houses in the country.

In 1979 it was decided to create the National Direction of Amateurs and Culture Houses. As there is a unified action and the existing links between the elements of the System are tightened, an organic strengthening is achieved and the obtaining of a more integral attention to the Movement of Amateur Artists (MAA).

The Culture Hall is an institution open and accessible to the public in charge of generating in a permanent way processes of concerted cultural development between the community and the state and civil entities, destined to the preservation, transmission and promotion of the artistic and cultural samples of the community. It is the place destined for a community to develop activities that promote culture among its inhabitants.

The house of culture has a physical plant that provides facilities for the teaching and practice of different cultural expressions, as well as conducting dissemination, training, training, research, organization and support for artistic creation, giving workshops on different artistic areas such as dance, theater and oral narration, music, plastic arts, literature, among others, aimed at children, youth, adults and older adults.
