Cuba’s new Constitution to enter into force soon
The New Constitution of the Republic of Cuba is already proclaimed, with high honors to the one approved in Guáimaro, Camagüey, 150 years ago, and with a deep and well thought transformation of the one approved in 1976, with respect to the fundamental principles of the Revolution, and in accordance with modern times and their demands.
The new Magna Carta was first studied and discussed neighborhood by neighborhood in all of Cuba. Around 1.5 million interventions took place, with more than 560,000 proposed modifications, nearly 30,000 additions and some 38,000 eliminations.
Out of the 7 million 848 thousand 343 people who exercised their right to vote, 6 million 816 thousand 169 people, 86.85%, voted Yes. And the votes obtained by the NO amount to 706,400 for 9% of the electors who voted.
Why did the majority approve the New Constitution of the Republic of Cuba?
Cuba continues to be one of the countries with the greatest citizen equality; Cuba continues to be one of the few countries where medical care and education are free; Cuba continues to be one of the few countries with a rigorous program for monitoring women (Mother-Child Program) during pregnancy and postpartum; Cuba continues to be one of the countries with the lowest infant mortality rate (in 2018 of 4.0 per thousand live births); Cuba continues to be one of the countries with the best social discipline in the world.
It is the safest country in the world for international tourism (Cuba received the Excellence Award as the safest country for tourism during the 38th International Trade Fair -Fitur 2018 in Madrid), according to sources and authorities of the issuing countries themselves; it is one of the countries with the best guarantees for foreign capital investments.
It is the country that most contributes with medical aid to countries with natural disasters and epidemics, such as Pakistan, Peru, Mexico, Haiti, Ecuador, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, etc.
The WHO valued Cuba’s health system as “a revolution in primary health care”, whose main indicators are the enormous reduction in the number of under-five deaths and the high life expectancy in Cuba, 77 years.
It was Cuba, in the voice of Fidel Castro, who denounced for the first time the possible extinction of the human race (in the 20th edition of the International Book Fair) unless the indiscriminate and ruthless exploitation of natural resources is stopped.
Cuba has been the most courageous country in confronting the Great Empire of Uncle Sam, by building a socialist society and keeping it under its own noses, with important results in different areas, especially technology, science, education and health, in spite of the severe economic blockade imposed by the governments of the United States since 1962.
Cuba has been recognized by several international organizations for its sustained work in different areas: UNICEF, WHO, FAO, UNESCO, WHO etc.
Cuba is among the best countries in the development of sports in Latin America and the Caribbean, with prominent results in regional, world and Olympic events. It is one of the strongest countries in the defense of its identity as a nation.
The Republic of Cuba will soon have its New Constitution that will enter into force as soon as it is published in the Official Gazette of the Republic.
