Contramaestre about to start May Day parade
Thousands of Contramaestrian workers, along with their families, are ready to actively participate in May Day parade, supporting the concept of “Unity, Commitment and Victory”.
Yurisleidis Díaz Zaldívar, General Secretary of Trade Union Confederation of Cuba (CTC) in Contramaestre, assured the conscious disposition of the workers’ movement to support the achievements of the Cuban Revolution, which were proclaimed more than 60 years ago.
Q: What are the motivations of the Contramaestrian workers to march for the conquests of Socialism this May 1st?
Yurisleidis: In the first place May Day parade in Contramaestre has the objective of demonstrating the commitment to support the agreements of the 21st Congress of the CTC, to pay tribute to the 80th anniversary of our organization and to support the trade union movements of the countries that fight for just workers’ demands.
Another of the main objectives of the workers’ march through the streets of Contramaestre is to reject the cruel blockade imposed by the U.S. government on Cuba and to demand once again the return of the territory currently occupied by the Guantánamo Naval Base, usurped from the Cuban nation for more than 60 years.
Q: How is May Day parade in Contramaestre organized and what time does it start?
And: The Contramaestre workers’ concentration begins at 7 a.m. so the different unions have been summoned to their concentration places very early. Fifteen unions will parade, with their own initiatives of their productive tasks or services, including all workers in the form of private management or self-employed who have affiliated to union organizations.
The first block of trade unions will be made up of workers of the food and fishing industries with 500 members, who have sustained an arduous work throughout 2018, in the production of bread, biscuits, wines, liquors and jams for the population with a high level of acceptance.
The parade closes with the Union of Public Administration with more than 1000 members, composed of mass organizations, political and governmental and a broad representation of the youth of the municipality.
