Company and entertainment in a domino game

Not a few people find companionship and entertainment in a domino game. Preferred by young people, adults and the elderly, it adds to the options of recreational games offered by sports professionals in the municipality of Contramaestre.

Every Saturday, in areas of the central park of the town of Maffo, men and women share domino tables; they make the tiles rumble and even jokingly argue. Around them there are always other players waiting for a couple to lose or to give an opinion.

But the game of 28 tiles is not just a sports offer. When passing through streets and homes you can feel a peculiar bustle; strong drops of tiles on the tables and a specific jargon warn that it is a game of dominoes.

This game has the power to gather families and friends around the table to talk about the best play, the possible double punctuation or who has to “water the domino”.

It is also almost religion to practice this game on commemorative dates such as the creation of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), which is held every September 28.

In this neighborhood event there are competitions between neighbors and clubs, as well as the tasting of traditional foods and good Cuban music.

What is certain is that this game is consolidated as one of the customs and traditions of the Cubans; and contributes notably to the relaxation and healthy enjoyment, above all, of the older adults of the town of Maffo en Contramaestre.
