Tribute to José Martí in Contramaestre
A group of young people from Contramaestre branch of Medical Sciences arrived at the Remanganaguas cemetery, without dusting their way, just as José Martí arrived at the statue of Bolívar. A two-kilometer journey from Guaninao, joined by students from the Francisco Bello mixed center.
The reason? A tribute to Martí at the sacred site where for the first time his inert body rested. There, the city historian Andrés Nunez Lora waited for them to approach little-known events that link the Cuban hero with the town of Remanganaguas.
After placing a floral offering in the name of the youth of the Contramaestre, 12 membership cards of the Young Communist League (UJC) were given to students of the Francisco Bello school.
As it is already tradition, the young people illuminated the Camilo Cienfuegos Avenue in the march of the torches headed by youth leaders, political and governmental authorities. From the semi-boarding school Orlando Pantoja Tamayo to the plaza of the same name, they carried the giant Cuban flag, waving posters and raising their voices in remembrance of Martí and Fidel.
In the political-cultural act held there, the support of the young women for the legitimate government of Nicolás Maduro, the rejection of the calumnies about Cuba presented at the UN and the call to Yes Vote for the Cuban Constitution on February 24th were made clear.
At about 10:30 at night, waiting for the 28th of January, the 166th anniversary of Martí’s birth, the future Contramaestrian doctors held a cultural evening and a Martian dinner. It began with three rings of the bell, similar to the celebration made in the last century by the members of the Hispano Cubano casino (today Casa de la Cultura Isidro Iglesias del Rey). There in the vicinity of the place exhibited the dishes that tasted the national hero, including cassava, meats in sauces, sweets and drinks.
This was the broad day of Marti that the Contramaestre youth starred during the weekend. It was confirmed that history is not forgotten, on the contrary continues to gain followers, especially in the youth sector.
