The National Education Meeting of the Young Communist League, held in December 4-6 1970, agreed to create the Federation of High School Students (FEEM). They built upon the experiences of the UES (Union of High School Students) and the BEJAE, (Jose Antonio Echevarria Student Brigades).
The new organization arose as part of the invigoration process of mass organizations, with the purpose of revitalizing the movement of high school students.
This is the most important political process that the Young Communist League ( UJC ) is developing these days. It involves 11 schools and some 2,753 students.
The opportunity to choose and be elected by vote, from an early age, is a proof of respect for the principle of democracy and representation, defended in Cuba.
With the election process, young people gain commitment and responsibility for making confidential decisions, with an ethical moral practice, far from fraud and favoritism.
In addition, they learn to participate in a leading role in the process because they themselves are part of the candidacy and scrutiny commission.
