A response to the call to Think as a Nation
Contramaestre, Nov. 26.- Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez called to think as a nation, trusting that a system of work would involve all of us in building a prosperous nation. Many have given a correct answer, exactly as he has asked.
In the mixed school Wily Valcárcel Portales located in Baire district, in the municipality of Contramaestre, Thinking as a Nation is more than a slogan or a dull label on social networks. There, professors and students of Professional Technical Teaching are inserted in different actions that transcend the school and are translated into social benefit.
Joan Carlos Sosa Igarza studies first year in the specialty of Handicrafts and together with his classmates he repairs books and furniture to deliver them to a special school. In this way they save the country’s resources at a time when imports are limited due to the cruel and inhuman blockade of the United States towards Cuba and when savings are needed.
Creativity and ingenuity allow them to transform what may seem disposable and ugly into useful objects whose purpose is to adorn. Thus, they turn old knobs into table vases to donate to other schools or communities, according to Thalía Silveira. She adds that they are making different toys like wooden dolls and trolleys to donate them.
The work practices are the moments in which the students insert themselves into the community work giving their contribution where it is necessary. This was demonstrated with maturity and responsibility by those who study the specialty of civil construction and cooperated in the construction of houses in the Ramón Gómez and Transformador settlements in the town of Baire.
Dairon Cabrera de la Rosa already had the opportunity to put his knowledge to the test in masonry. “As a bricklayer I can help many people to have a decent house, so that they do not get wet or cold, people who build their houses with subsidies provided by the Cuban State, and I can also help in my own house. I would like to be a good architect.”
This educational center where various types of teaching come together shows positive signs that Thinking as a nation is giving oneself body and soul to the nation, with enthusiasm, optimism and unity.
