Successful Coffee Harvest in Los Negros
Los Negros Popular Council of Contramaestre municipality achieves a successful coffee harvest in 2018, after 93 tons in production this year, reported Rodolfo Anaya, Brigade Chief of Los Negros Café.
The 2018 coffee harvest reached its maximum productive splendor in December, this time with encouraging figures in the collection and benefit of the bean in the ecological pulper existing in the territory of Contramaestre, which is supplied by two credit and service cooperatives and three basic units of cooperative production in the Arabica and Robusta coffee varieties for national consumption.
The 37 workers are still working on the cherries before being transferred to the coffee processing company Rolando Ayud en Contramaestre (Former BANFAIC). These men and women should be acknowledged and congratulated on the coming of a new year.
“The weather mainly helped to improve the quality of the wet processing when drying the coffee (…) A better harvest has been made in the plantations, which is why we have had a high productivity,” says Rodolfo Anaya.
The coffee workers in Los Negros begin their work from sunrise to nightfall to give the required treatment to the cherries to guarantee their drying quality. Although low wages were a concern at one time, during 2018 incomes increased considerably, to the satisfaction of the workers.
Efficiency was determined by the favorable weather, by the creation of the anticipated material conditions, and by the adequate qualification of the personnel. However, the company needs to continue to improve technical assistance to ensure adequate and timely transportation of coffee.
