Pavel Sanchez, a farmer of this era

Those who visit the farm of the peasant Pável Sánchez Figueredo find in it a true natural beauty. He is a farmer of this era.

Cleanliness, quality and diversity of crops are in this plot that captivates the sight of any passer-by that circulates through the community of Anacahuita neighborhood in Contramaestre municipality.

This farmer, for ten years bets on the wealth that comes from the land. Citrus, fruit trees, various crops and pig raising has developed in this period with satisfactory results both for him and for the Agricultural Production Cooperative (CPA) Saturnino Lora Torres. He belongs to a productive base where he is recognized among his peers as one of the most outstanding.

For these reasons, he integrates international agricultural projects that have been implemented for some time in the southeastern territory, such as the fruit and citrus development program.

Alternatives in the Face of Obstacles
But not everything has been a happy ending for Sánchez Figueredo in his thirty-seven years of life. As he argues, in recent times we are very much affected by the lack of rain. From the end of October 2018 to date I have had great losses in productions such as cassava and beans.

Currently the plantations sown in March are not properly developed due to the absence of rainfall in the stages of growth and development of the plants. Little by little we, the farmers, are realizing how the climate has been changing and the alternatives that we must apply in the face of the real threat of climate change. In order to do this, planting resistant crops is one of the ways we have to apply immediately. Previously, we saw this as very distant or that it was not real.

But this farmer is not only recognized for his high agricultural yields, but also because he applies impaled technology to crops such as pumpkin. This method is used in agriculture for its multiple advantages, to make efficient use of space and obtaining more products.

This experience is applied in Contramaestre to crops such as pumpkin, yam, cucumber and beans, according to this lover of the land. It is also a technique that is being expanded in other local producers as an alternative to climate change.
