New industry in Contramaestre to replace imports

The assembly of the largest plant for the benefit of grains in Cuba is progressing in Contramaestre, which will make it possible to substitute imports to the Island.

In this municipality agriculture is the economic support of its development, reason that leads to the assembly of this industry with a capacity of 120 tons per day. Once it is finished, it will benefit all the beans and corn harvested in this territory, the largest producer of this last crop at the national level.

Antonio Almenares Atencio, director of the future beneficiary plant said that they work on the different objects of the project, mainly the silos and that its completion in the agreed term will depend on the arrival of construction materials, since many of the resources of the industrial part are in the site.

Valued at 6.5 million pesos, it has as its main investor the Agroindustrial Grain Company of Palma Soriano; but also the Contramaestre plant receives the support of constructors from the agriculture clearing company, the Ministry of Construction and the Azcuba assembly brigade in the province of Santiago.

There are multiple advantages that will bring the implementation of this industry because more than 20 state and private productive forms will deliver there the crops of corn and beans for their benefit, this will raise one hundred percent of the quality for subsequent marketing to the intended destinations.

The focus is on achieving sustainability, food security and substituting imports from Contramaestre’s fields, aiming at developing agriculture here, a strong place in the economy of the municipality, the province and the country.
