Looking for alternative feed for pigs
The Cooperative of Credits and Services (CCS) Miguel Betancourt of the municipality of Contramaestre, was the agricultural structure chosen to carry out the Workshop of alternative feeding for the swine producers in order to increase pork meat volumes.
The San José farm of producer Ricardo Vega Portales was the setting for this type of event. The workshop was attended by Dr. Francisco Antonio Saragó Zamora, Professor Consultant of the University of Oriente and experienced veterinarian José Alberto Mesa Font, who from science research the development of this species based on national resources and ways for greater exploitation.
The participants in this exchange of alternative food between pig producers and state institutions agreed to socialize the various formulas with the use of plants such as sorghum, mulberry, tithonia, grains such as corn and crops such as yucca in the production of animal feed in order not to depend exclusively on feed imported.
Contramaestre is one of the largest pork producers in Cuba. The pig raising includes 50 producers in the 13 districts that make up the municipality.
There the importance of a meeting of this type, in order to act together from any productive structure where there is an agreement with the purpose of increasing the volumes of pork.
