Fruit production increases in Contramaestre

Fruit cultivation is a program developed by the Agricultural Production Cooperative (CPA) Saturnino Lora Torres, of Contramaestre municipality, which adds to its traditional social object: multiple crops.

The productive base also has 38 hectares of guava, 6 hectares of papaya with prospects of reaching ten, 3 hectares of grapefruit, 2 hectares of Persian lime and 4.4 hectares of avocado. According to Bencosme Ginarte, the purpose of the CPA is to close all fruit production completely.

Reynaldo Bencosme Ginarte: The mango flowering was not as expected due to the low rainfall, but we plan to fulfill the plan which is 35 tons. As far as guava is concerned, a favourable harvest is expected.

This cooperative also received a carpentry module that will benefit the confection of packages to contribute to the good development of the commercialization of the fruits of the field to the industry, to finally overcome the difficulties in food production in previous years.

Currently, this cooperative stands at 75 percent of the fulfillment of the plan for sowing various crops. In this regard Bencosme Ginarte explained that the structure has a plan for planting eighty hectares of corn, so far it has 75 hectares.

Yucca cultivation is also present on the soil of Saturnino Lora cooperative with 7-hectareon. These plantations improve with the arrival of the recent rains, after a long dry period.
