Cuba will continue to join Africa
Cuba and Africa are united by strong ties forged in a common history of struggle and shared aspirations, said Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Anayansi Rodriguez at an Africa Day event attended by the President of the Cuban Parliament, Esteban Lazo.
During the celebration, which took place at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rodríguez highlighted the increasingly solid role that the African Union has today in the international arena, and she stressed the adoption of Agenda 20-6-3 as an example of confronting the challenge of sustainable development.
The vice-minister recalled the African influence on the formation of the Cuban nationality, and therefore, she underlined, we never hesitate to extend our solidarity and to contribute modestly to forging its independence and development, as Fidel taught us.
We renew our firm commitment to the noble causes of the African peoples,” said Anayansi Rodriguez, “The soul of Cuba belongs to us,” stressed Egypt’s ambassador in Havana, Mohamed Hisham Gamal Al Din, who spoke on behalf of the African Union, a regional organization whose pro tempore presidency is held by Cairo.
In the act for Africa Day, Gama Al Din referred to the challenges facing that continent, among which he cited terrorism, refugees and climate change, the latter challenge that, he said, the nations of that region share with Cuba.
The Egyptian diplomat highlighted the role played by our country in liberating Africa from the colonial yoke, aid that has not stopped, but has spread, and today it has expression in medical and educational collaboration.
Africa Day was proclaimed on 25 May 1963 by the Organization of African Unity, the forerunner of today’s African Union.
