Contramaestre fosters pig farming

Contramaestre promotes pig farming, based on the productions of the animal feed factory, located in the rural community of La Anacahuita. The industry, located about six kilometers from the city of Contramaestre, is responsible for processing the food of the three specialized pig farming units of this eastern territory and the municipality of Tercer Frente in La Sierra Maestra.

This productive unit has supported and guaranteed the development of pig farming in Contramaestre for the past three years.

The industry has a technology of Spanish origin capable of processing forty-eight tonnes of animal feed per hour. This figure has already been surpassed in production peaks, thanks to the installed technology allowing the processing of the planned one thousand two hundred tons per month.

At the end of 2018, the Feed Factory of La Anacahuita presented irregularities with the supply of raw material. However, today, another is the situation.

According to Arelis Martin Perez, main specialist of the factory, (…) currently the industry has two thousand tons of corn of national production that together with the entrance of the ships that transport the imported grain, guarantees the preparation of the animal feed. Today there are no difficulties for animal feed production (…)

Martin Perez also said that: (…) this year had the particularity that the peak of the corn harvest was brought forward for the month of August. Situation that had not happened previously. The months of September and October were the months in which the highest corn production was received from the different agricultural structures in charge of moving the valuable grain from the field to the industry.

The main specialist also said that this group of thirty-nine workers supports energy saving measures without affecting production. To this end, a series of provisions have been approved in the center according to the characteristics of the industry that favor power saving.
