Catching lobsters in Contramaestre for export

The first freshwater lobsters for export were caught in Contramaestre. The production will be processed by the fishing industry of Santiago de Cuba.

The crustacean is cultivated in the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes breeding station in this municipality. Yordan Volpara, head of the station, said that the productive achievement represents about 500 kilograms, equivalent to 6,400 animals whose average size is 80 grams.

The captured biomass, destined for the external market, comes from eleven 200-square-meter pools in a natural environment. In this unit, operations are carried out to manage the lobster catch.

It is a priority of the specialized human capital to continue improving the production of the crustacean. Hence, the reproductive cycle of the species is given careful attention.

For this group of workers, exceeding the agreed ton by 2019 is a first order task. Taking advantage of the fact that the habitat of the freshwater lobster population is highly favorable in Contramaestre.
