Bungo-La Venta District, a food production base in Contramaestre

One year after the opening of the Bungo la Venta production base in Contramaestre, the municipality responsible for local self-supply, there appear the first results of different crops.

Daniel Méndez Rodríguez, president of Bungo-La venta District argued that this agricultural strategy to increase food production as demanded by the population. The main crops are yams, bananas, yucca, corn and fruit trees.

Four Cooperative Production Units (UBPC), two Agricultural Production Cooperatives (CPA) and four Credit and Services Cooperatives (CCS) are located in this district. These productive bases have the mission of producing food for local consumption and replacing imports.

Currently, the productive pole is involved in preparing and ensuring the development of the corn harvest. This area recently harvested large volumes of grain as well as tomatoes and beans.

In addition to these results, there is the collaboration of international agricultural projects. These have as mission to reach high productions in diverse crops, the improvement of life standards and the appropriate the treatment of the land.
