Young Cuban tenor awarded in international contest in Italy

Rome, July 7 (Latin Press) The young Cuban tenor Luis Javier Oropesa, expressed satisfaction here today for the second place achieved in the International Contest for Lyric Singers and Accompanying Pianists Rolando Nicolasi.

Oropesa reached the final escorted by Italian sopranos Carina Di Gianfilippo and Maela Nicoletti, who took first and third place respectively in the two-day contest held at the Velly Theater in the Roman town of Formello.

The jury of the competition, founded in 1996 by the Rolando Nicolosi Musical Association, was presided over by the renowned soprano and mezzo-soprano Mirella Parutto and also included the baritone Ettore Nova, the pianist Davide Dellisanti, the Chinese pianist Bojie Yin and the soprano Michela Varvaro

At the age of 25, Oropesa, who graduated from the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory and is a member of the National Lyric Theater, also received the special prize Music is Life, awarded by the Leo Club Roma Marco Aurelio to the youngest participant in the competition.

In a dialogue with Prensa Latina, he said he felt ‘very happy, very happy’, above all because he was the only Latin American among Italian and foreign contestants, with a lot of talent and a high professional level.

In addition to the joy for the recognition achieved, Oropesa expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the event and to receive the appreciation and recommendations of the members of the jury, something very important for a young man in a career that requires as many years of maturation as that of a lyric singer.

The young tenor came to the capital to participate in an audition of a program of the Opera House of Rome aimed at the development of young lyrical artists and he will shortly return to Medellin, Colombia, where he is part of the main opera company and teaches lyrical singing to children and young people at the University of Antioquia.
