U.S. Threats and Falsehoods Against Cuba Have Not Found Support
From many parts of the world, voices continue to be raised in open rejection of the new sanctions imposed by the U.S. government against Cuba, especially the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.
The Government of Mexico reiterated its rejection of the application of this policy, which violates international law, and endorsed its commitment to legally protect Mexican companies that may be affected. In an official communiqué from the Secretary of Economy of that country, it is recalled that in order to counteract the extraterritorial effects of Helms-Burton, they have the “Law that Protects Trade and Investment of Foreign Norms that Contravene International Law”, in force since October 1996.
“Like other countries, Mexico analyzes the corresponding legal instances to bring actions for violations of international law that the Helms-Burton Act represents,” states the Mexican government’s communiqué.
The Islamic Republic of Iran also ratified its support for the Island. “Washington demonstrated once again that it uses any illegitimate instrument to put pressure on independent countries,” said Seyed Abás Musavi, spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to PL, an academic from the Chinese University of Political Science and Law, Pan Deng, assured that Trump’s government puts pressure on Cuba and hits the entire international community with its extraterritorial character.
For Deng, the measure is an act of reincarnation of the colonial era that goes beyond trying to suffocate the Caribbean nation, and it is hiding behind the supposed violation of human rights to impose unilateral sanctions and it goes against the principle of the World Trade Organization to avoid barriers to business, exchange of goods and services among the different states of the planet.
The General Assembly of the organization “Friends of Cuba”, from Belgium, adopted a resolution demanding that the European Union and its Member States use all possible means to protect companies and their citizens from the legal consequences of legal proceedings on U.S. territory and inviting Belgian civil society organizations to join in supporting the Cuban Revolution.
From our country, Chancellor Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla thanked again this Monday, through his Twitter account, “the broad international rejection of governments, companies and figures against the Helms-Burton Law”.
As our President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated: “The threats, sanctions, measures, falsehoods and lies formulated by the U.S. Government against Cuba have not found support in political, academic, cultural, business and religious sectors inside and outside U.S. territory.
