U.S. sanctions against Cuba condemned in Brazil
Salvador de Bahia, Brazil – Members of various groups of solidarity with Cuba in the Brazilian state of Salvador de Bahia protested against all the sanctions imposed by the United States against the island and which tighten the blockade.
The activists marched through the streets of that city, on a historic date for the Bahianos, as it celebrates the 196th anniversary of Bahia’s independence from the Portuguese empire.
Affiliated with the José Martí Cultural Association and the Brazilian Center for Solidarity with the Peoples and Struggle for Peace, they marched to the Historical Center of Salvador, carrying banners against the blockade and the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.
Cuban authorities have ratified that Washington’s sanctions aim to wrest political concessions from the Cuban nation by suffocating the economy and damaging the population’s living standards.
