U.S. band Blondie is in Cuba

American rock band Blondie arrived in Cuba today, where they will perform for the first time in their more than four decades of musical career.

The recitals, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the capital’s Mella Theater, will feature a varied repertoire, including classics from his discography and songs from his latest studio album entitled Pollinator.

The band, led by Deborah Harry, creator of such hits as Rapture, The Tide Is High and Heart Of Glass, will share the stage with local artists David Torrens, Alain Pérez and the Síntesis band.

According to what the band said in social networks, they have long wanted to sing in Cuba and share the stage with its musicians.

The band’s presentations are part of the Blondie initiative in Havana, a four-day cultural exchange project that will allow musicians to get to know the Island and interact with fans and artists.

In statements to local media Harry expressed his desire to turn the visit Cuba into a wider cultural gathering and to be able to invite the public to his presentations and even to the sound tests.

We hope to try a kind of semi-integration with the community and maybe do some presentations and concerts before the official shows, maybe we do a drum circle or some kind of musical communication, we are still not clear,’ explained drummer Clem Burke.

The band made up by Christopher Stein (guitar), Leigh Foxx (bass), Matt Katz-Bohen (keyboards and synthesizers) and Tommy Kessler (guitar), was founded in 1974 and it is one of the pillars of the emergence of new wave and punk rock in the United States.

Blondie has been a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2006 and they have 11 studio albums and more than 40 million albums sold worldwide.
