The US Independence Day, Fourth of July
The US people traditionally celebrate the Fourth of July or the Independence Day, in honor of the breakup with British colonialism. The document was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.
Independence Day is one of the most festive holidays in the United States, and as such, it’s a great time for traveling. Cities all over the country celebrate by having large Fourth of July fireworks displays, patriotic parades, and street parties.
During the Fourth of July the US people also spend a lot of money in food items for their picnic or cookout; they wear patriotic-themed apparel such as T-shirts, bathing suits or shoes. They display a US flag and attend fireworks show or community celebration; others watch a parade.
Fire seems to be the main point of 4th of July celebrations. From lighting fireworks to cooking food, the focus is on a flame.
The Declaration of Independence has also been a source of inspiration outside the United States. It encouraged Antonio de Nariño and Francisco de Miranda to strive toward overthrowing the Spanish empire in South America, and it was quoted with enthusiasm by the Marquis de Mirabeau during the French Revolution. It remains a great historical landmark in that it contained the first formal assertion by a whole people of their right to a government of their own choice.
Notwithstanding, the US policy towards Cuba is all the contrary. They do want the Cuban Revolution to serve as inspiration to other people as the American Revolution. Why?
Because the example of Cuba hinders their expansion, their interests of the imperialistic aspirations, since it suggests the extermination of plundering, and exploitation, as well as emancipation and total independence of nations.
War is the focus of the US perspective. A new poisonous ingredient was added to the picnic of the celebration of the Fourth of July. President Donald Trump foresaw a huge military parade to demonstrate the power of the US armed forces in a way or another.
That US military power is not actually intended for peace, or defense. How many countries have attacked the USA? How many wars has the US Army fought in their own territory?
On the other hand, countries such as: Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, were attacked by US armed military forces, in unjust wars, killing thousands of innocents. The US governments have supported tyrannies in Latina America, Africa, around the whole world.
Let us consider the following statement: The independence of the Thirteen Colonies remains a great historical landmark in that it contained the first formal assertion by a whole people of their right to a government of their own choice.
Nevertheless, it has been very difficult, rather impassible, for US governments to admit that other countries have the right to choose their own governments and political system. It is hard to understand that the US policy towards Cuba is that of suffocating the Cuban people and blockading our economy.
The financial and economic blockade enforced 1962 against Cuba and and the worsening of such inhumane measure with the Helms-Burton Act and the activation of its Title III are examples how the White House “has forgotten” the History of the USA.
