Seven identified as dead in Guantánamo-Baracoa road traffic accident

The names of the seven people who died in the traffic accident that occurred Thursday at kilometer 25 of the Guantánamo-Baracoa road, at the site known as La Herradura hill, were announced today by Yondris Reyes Domínguez, vice surgical clinical director and acting director of Agosthino Neto Provincial Hospital in the city of Guantánamo.

The deceased are named Alexander Castillo Pérez, 32 years old, born in the municipality of Maisí; Antonio Joler Perez, 47 years old, (Maisí); Yanet de los Ángeles Santana Ordúñez, 34 years old, (Baracoa); Roxana Lauseda Gómez, 35 years old, (Argentina); Annegret Frieda Gohike, 59 years old, (Germany), Patrick Demer Tesseran, 67 years old (France) and Nadis Carolina Flores, 35 years old (Argentina).

The director told ACN that of those hospitalized, five are reported to be critical, life-threatening, four of them surgically operated by orthopedics and they are in post-surgery, and a woman in emerging care, in critical condition, with affectations in the cranio-encephalic massif.

Of the 33 injured attended in the institution (21 foreigners and 12 Cubans), three were discharged and others are evaluated who must also leave in the next few hours for presenting minor injuries.

He pointed out that the injured people are in different services of the Hospital, taking into account the complexity and severity of the injuries, and that Pedro Agustín Pérez, the three-year-old Spanish child whose situation is stable, is still in the Pediatric ward.

Reyes Domínguez emphasized that they have the resources available to resolve this type of situation and that all resources are available to guarantee stability and continuous follow-up for all patients.

The young Argentine Constantino Sideris, hospitalized in the international services room, told ACN that the care received has been very good and he is very grateful for the care, that he is recovering from the bruises on the head and ribs and he already feels better.

In another of the rooms, Frederique Joly, from France, said that he had minor injuries, and he also ponders the careful treatment of the hospital’s medical staff, who are very concerned about everything.

The 21 foreigners (one presumed to be Cuban) who were traveling on the Via Azul bus come from Spain, Argentina, the United States, France, Holland, Canada and Mexico, and the 12 Cubans, from Baracoa, Maisí, Santiago de Cuba, Ciego de Ávila, La Habana, Camagüey and Sancti Spíritus.

The causes of this unfortunate incident are still being investigated by experts from the Ministry of the Interior.
