Russia and Cuba deepen transport cooperation
Russia and Cuba today deepened cooperation in the area of transportation, a vital sector of bilateral trade, especially when the U.S. siege against the Island.
In this regard, the vice-president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas, highlighted the crucial character of transport, in all its variants, for the economy of his country, when he met here with the Russian Minister of Transport, Evgueni Ditrij.
The Cuban vice-president was very optimistic about the prospects for further development of collaboration in a field that is considered one of the top priorities for his nation.
Cabrisas denounced the tightening by the United States of the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, by activating Chapter III of the Helms-Burton extraterritorial act and applying other additional punitive measures.
On his side, Ditrij referred to the significant progress in terms of broadening the regulatory base between the two countries since his last meeting with the Cuban vice president last January in this capital.
The Russian minister pointed out that in that period the protocol on modification of the governmental agreement on maritime transport of 1992 was signed, while he noted the signing of a bilateral agreement on air navigation.
In addition, the Russian official referred to the progress and positive results of the commission for maritime and rail transport, as well as regular meetings of working groups in the field of transport in general.
All of this shows the fruitful cooperation of our countries in this field,” said the Russian Minister at a meeting of delegations from both states at the headquarters of the Russian Ministry of Transport.
On the Cuban side, also present were the Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil, the Cuban Ambassador to Russia, Gerardo Peñalver, and the Director of Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emilio Lozada, among other officials.
