Prime Minister of Belize to discuss issues of regional interest in Cuba

He also mentioned that his visit gives them the opportunity to participate in some way in the popular referendum to be held on February 24 to approve the Constitution of the Republic.

The official visit of the Belizean Prime Minister will last until Friday, as part of which he will pay tribute to the most universal of Cubans, José Martí, and he will hold official conversations with Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of Cuba, as announced by the Cuban leader in his Twitter account, the historical ties that unite the Caribbean nation and Belize are based on the principles of solidarity, friendship, gratitude and full support with the Caribbean.

According to reports from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, one of the main aspects of the collaboration between the two countries has been that of medical care, which began in 1994 for the benefit of more than 4,935,000 Belizean patients.

Another example of cooperation is the access to Cuban universities and educational centers of some 344 Belizean students, most of whom have come to the island to become doctors.

In addition, in August 2018, Cuba and Belize began talks on issues of common interest related to migration, with the aim of developing other mechanisms contributing to the achievement of a regular, orderly and safe exodus, as well as confronting human trafficking and the illegal smuggling of migrants.
