On the Internet: standing up for our values and identity

The Minister of Communications, Jorge Luis Perdomo, emphasized that Internet access will continue to be expanded in the country.

The Minister of Communications, Jorge Luis Perdomo, called for Cuban projects and service platforms closer to our culture and ideology, defense of values and identity at the First National Internet Governance Forum in Havana Convention Center.

He emphasized that the different forms of Internet access will continue to be expanded in Cuba, so that there will be more possibilities to use it in order to enrich our culture, exchange and defend ideas, and as a means of communication.

The Minister described as very positive the leadership of the Union of Informaticians of Cuba in the forums on Internet Governance, a process that has different sides and crosses several sectors.

He warned that the network of networks is not totally neutral, and it is dominated by transnationals and countries that are not willing to lose control over that medium.

Building the Internet Together

During the opening session of the First National Internet Governance Forum, which meets at the Havana Convention Center, access to and use of technologies were widely debated.

In a panel organized by the Cuban Association of Pedagogues, the experiences of various territories to achieve genuine digital inclusion were presented.

The impact of social networks in adolescence, work with disabled people and the elderly, and the responsible use of the Web of networks in childhood were some of the topics addressed by the participants.

Alexander Diaz, senior specialist in Institutional Communication for the Youth Club of Computing and Electronics, stressed that the island is immersed in a campaign to strengthen the technological culture, and bring the best of the Internet to all corners of the country.
