Minnesota Protests Against U.S. Sanctions Against Iran, Venezuela, Cuba

Minneapolis, July 15 (RHC) Demonstrators in the state of Minnesota condemned U.S. sanctions against Iran, Venezuela and Cuba and expressed solidarity with the peoples of these countries.

Organized by the Minnesota Peace Action Coalition, the protest took place on Saturday in the city of Minneapolis and was attended by members of labor unions, drivers and dozens of pedestrians, according to local media reports on Sunday, highlights HispanTV.

“We have more in common with the tailors in Tehran than with the bankers who destroyed our economy. We have more in common with bus drivers in Caracas than with politicians who lock children in cages,” said David Gilbert-Pederson, of the Minnesota Workers Union, at the protest.

In a speech, Mary Beaudoin from the Women Against Military Madness board denounced U.S. sanctions on Iran as “an act of war.

“We are in a war with Iran right now. The U.S. is waging a war with a variety of tactics. It is encouraging the terrorist group Mujahideen Khalq (MKO), which wants a change of system in Iran,” Beaudoin continued, further saying that Washington by sanctioning the Iranian people has made Tehran’s access to food, raw materials and medicine impossible.

Meanwhile, Tracy Molm of the Anti-War Committee repudiated the U.S. Administration’s continued acts of aggression against Venezuela. The activist mentioned a report from the Center for Economic and Political Research, saying that more than 40,000 Venezuelans have died as a result of U.S. sanctions.

“It is important to keep in mind that the sanctions overwhelmingly affect the most vulnerable in society, denying people the medicines and supplies they desperately need, such as cooking gas, which makes daily life in the selected countries difficult,” Molm said.

Joe Callahan, of the Cuba-Minnesota Committee, in turn, took advantage of the event to attack the current U.S. Administration for tightening the economic blockade against Cuba.
