International solidarity with Cuba after tornado hit Havana
Groups and countries from various parts of the world in solidarity with Cuba sent messages of support to the island after the tornado that shook Havana last Sunday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of the Republic of Ecuador, on behalf of the people and the National Government, expresses its sorrow to the people and Government of the Republic of Cuba for the unfortunate loss of human lives, hundreds of injuries and material damage caused by the tornado, according to an Official Communiqué.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Bureau for Risk Management in El Salvador expressed its confidence that the unity of the Cuban people and the solidarity of friendly countries will allow the island to recover soon from this sudden and powerful blow of nature.
The Nicaraguan government sent a message signed by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, in whose text he transfers to Cuba ‘all our affection in this day of difficulties and losses’.
Also the members of the Bolivarian Circle Yamileth López, from Costa Rica, transmitted their respect and affection to the people of the Cuban capital.
In a brief communiqué, the Panamanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its solidarity with the families of the fatal victims, ‘and trusts that the renewed hope shared with the Cuban pilgrims who participated in World Youth Day 2019 will contribute to overcoming this tragedy, resulting from the onslaught of nature.
The Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association today sent its condolences to President Miguel Diaz-Canel and the people of the Caribbean country and they expressed their deepest sympathy and solidarity with the families of the victims at this difficult time, according to the message published on the Facebook page of the Cuban embassy in the African country.
The number of people killed as a result of the strong tornado that hit this capital rose to four, while the number of wounded reached 195.
The most damaged municipalities were Regla, Guanabacoa, Diez de Octubre and San Miguel del Padrón, according to official sources.
