Ghana’s Vice President in Cuba strengthens bilateral relations

The vice-president of Ghana, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, is in Cuba on an official visit, with the aim of strengthening the bilateral relations that will reach 60 years next December.

Mahamudu Bawumia will carry out an extensive program of activities, accompanied by representatives of the Cuban government. He will pay tribute to José Martí, Apostle of Cuba, together with Vice President Inés María Chapman, by depositing a floral offering in the Plaza de la Revolución, in Havana.

Then, the Ghanaian vice-president counts on his agenda with his participation in the graduation ceremony of the University of Medical Sciences in Havana, where students from that sub-Saharan African country graduate.

In the six decades of diplomatic relations, Cuba and Ghana have developed a growing cooperation that encompasses the areas of agriculture, tourism, sports, education, science, technology and health.

Cuban medical collaboration with Ghana began in 1983. Today, there are some twenty Cuban professionals in the country’s compensated medical services. Meanwhile, some 458 young Ghanaians have prepared themselves as future doctors in the Greater Antilles.

Recently, Cuba was the destination of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Mr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

As part of his stay, the distinguished visitor was received by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and held official conversations with the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

He also gave a lecture to professors and students in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana, where he referred to particularities about historical ties, economic and social development and prospects in search of sustainability in Ghana.

Ghana, one more country that proves its unconditional bilateral relations with Cuba, and it trusts in the seriousness and solidity of the Cuban Revolution. It is one of the many nations that do not believe in the lies of imperialism, nor in the defamatory campaigns that are spread all over the world against the Island. Reality prevails once again. Cuba is trust, it is security for agreements, commitments, foreign investments and diplomatic relations. It is the highest expression of internationalism and solidarity with all the peoples of the world.
