Festival of New Latin American Cinema will show 300 movies from over 37 nations

Havana, Nov. 21 (RHC) Havana already fills its lungs with the air of the film festival most awaited by the public in this capital: the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, which from December 5 to 15 will take theaters located on the circuit of Avenue 23, in tribute to the centennial of the birth of renowned Cuban filmmaker Santiago Alvarez, and the 60th anniversary of the ICAIC.

This 41st edition will screen a total of 300 films from 37 countries, with a strong presence of Latin America, with 210 productions, where Argentina and Brazil stand out as the most represented nations in the area. On this occasion, 21 fiction feature films, 19 short and medium-length films, 18 debut operas, 21 feature-length documentaries and 10 short and medium-length films, 23 animated films, 25 unpublished scripts and 30 posters compete, Iván Giroud, general director of the Festival, explained to the press in the newspaper Granma.

The screening of films on this occasion amounts to 660 among works in competition, special presentations, restored classics, film and television, gala, among others. The inauguration will take place at six o’clock in the afternoon of Thursday 5 at the Karl Marx Theater, with the screening of the Argentine fiction feature film La odisea de los giles (“The Odyssey of the Giles”), by director Sebastián Borensztein. Likewise, the Cuban National Ballet will be presented for the first time in an edition of this festival, paying a deserved tribute to the Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso.
