Early diagnosis to prevent glaucoma blindness
With health promotion and early detection actions, Cuba today joins the activities for the World Glaucoma Day, a neurodegenerative and irreversible disease, whose evolution can eventually lead to blindness.
Experts emphasize that there is no single cause for the disease, therefore, its form of presentation is very diverse as well as the age of onset although it is more frequent from the age of 40 on.
As part of the actions for the date, the Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology Ramon Pando Ferrer, celebrates annually the International Workshop of Glaucoma, that, in this occasion, will be the days 14 and 15 of March, in the theater of the prestigious institution.
The population aging has brought about glaucoma, the second cause of blindness in Cuba and the world, is one of the most frequent surgical criteria in the country.
