Dmitri Medvedev to be awarded Honoris Causa by Havana University

La Habana, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) The Prime Minister of Russia, Dimitri Medvedev, on an official visit to Cuba, will receive today the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Political Science from the University of Havana.

Before ending his stay on Friday, he will also attend the launch of a secondary oil recovery project in the province of Mayabeque, some 43 kilometers from this capital city.

After his arrival in Cuba yesterday, Medvedev was received in a solemn ceremony at the Palace of the Revolution (seat of the Executive) by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, with whom he held talks.

Both leaders expressed their satisfaction for the excellent state of bilateral relations, based on the historical ties of friendship between their peoples and governments, and ratified the will to work for their continued strengthening. They also spearheaded a signing ceremony for bilateral agreements on scientific-technical cooperation and customs activities.

The policies of force here have no future,” said the Russian Prime Minister after the signing of the agreements, and highlighted Cuba’s ability to resist the growing hostility of the Honoris Causa.

He also emphasized that Moscow will continue to support the largest of the Antilles in all areas and that the Russian State will support the business community of that country interested in investing in the island.

For his part, the president of Cuba thanked Russia for its firm stance against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States almost six decades ago.

He also announced that he will travel to Russia at the end of this month, while extending an invitation to his counterpart from that Eurasian country, Vladimir Putin, to visit the Caribbean island.

The links between Cuba and Russia are expressed in the permanent exchange of high-level visits.

Medvedev was on the island earlier in 2008 and 2013, while President Putin traveled in 2014.

The first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, Raúl Castro, visited Moscow in 2009 as president, then in 2012 and 2015, while Díaz-Canel made an official visit last year.
