Diaz-Canel on the wage increase in Cuba II
The Cuban television program Mesa Redonda once again featured Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, accompanied by Alejandro Gil Fernández, the ministers of Economy and Planning; Meisi Bolaños Weiss, Finance and Prices; and Margarita Fernández González, Labor and Social Security, to deepen in the expected impact of the salary increase on the budgeted sector of Cuban society.
The Cuban president expressed that popular control will be a determining factor in the successful implementation of the wage increase. And he affirmed that this is a combat that will unite us more; if we explain more about what the contribution to society should be, we are going to be winning the battle against indecency and for the ethics that must distinguish us.
Diaz-Canel said he was impressed by the clarity with which the people have interpreted all the measures and have established the commitment to defend them through the proper use of the working day, and a greater efficiency.
The ministers clarified issues such as the contribution of wage increases to social security, pensions for retirees, as well as the contribution to the budget through better compliance with tax obligations.
The workers of the National Office of Tax Attention have expressed their decision to redouble their efforts to prevent the evasion of the corresponding payments for taxes, thus assured the Minister of Finance and Prices.
Alejandro Gil Fernandez, Minister of Economy and Planning, stressed that the wage increase does not presuppose an increase in prices, as it would cancel the impact of the measure.
He stressed that the necessary arrangements will be made to offer a greater supply of services and goods, so that the wage increase serves to better meet the needs of families, and prevent inflation or shortages.
The minister emphasized that the municipalities, parallel to the national effort, should ensure self-supply from endogenous resources and local development projects.
Margarita González Fernández, Minister of Labor and Social Security, offered extensive information on how the salary increase works for health specialists who serve as professors at medical universities.
The minister clarified that the salary increase will reach retirees whose pay is below 500 pesos. And she said that this measure covers all types of workers in the education sector without any distinction.
