Diaz-Canel: “None affected by the tornado will be left helpless
Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of Cuba, said that no one will be left homeless and assured that the Cuban state has the political will and resources to assist those affected by the tornado that hit several municipalities of Havana last Sunday.
A devastating Tornado, a human tsunami of reconstruction. Cuba knows and practices Solidarity. An organized society, a planned economy, a socialist government, will always have reserves so that no one is left helpless, the president wrote on Twitter.
In another tuit he added that to march for Martí is to march for Cuba. Also for the victims of the tornado. From the Escalinata (Havana University Stairs) we descend with our most willing and united spirits, so that the battered neighborhoods can be rebuilt with the collaboration of all.
This Tuesday, the President headed another meeting of the Council of Ministers in which the recovery was followed up, and in which efforts were accelerated and the victims were cared for in a careful way.
A tornado of great severity caused four deaths and 195 wounded, as well as serious damages such as the fall of trees, electrical poles, breakage of glass and aluminum doors and windows, damage to roofs of houses, total and partial collapse, and fall of fiber cement water tanks placed on rooftops.
Containers and automobiles were dragged or overturned by strong winds, among other effects.
