Cuban President Diaz-Canel visits Mexico
Contramaestre. The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, arrived today in Mexico to complete an official visit to that country.
The Cuban delegation is made up of Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment and Energy and Mines Ministers Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz and Raúl García Barreiro, respectively; Eugenio Martínez Enríquez and Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Directors General of Latin America and the Caribbean, and of Consular Affairs and Cubans Residing Abroad, respectively, as well as the Cuban Ambassador to the United Mexican States, Pedro Núñez Mosquera.
The president of the Republic of Cuba expressed on Twitter on Thursday his excitement to return to Mexico, in what is his first official visit after taking office a week ago.
“In his first official visit as President of the Republic of Cuba, it is exciting to return to the heart of Mexico, a nation so tied to our history and of all Latin America,” the president wrote in his account on that social network.
Upon his arrival in the Mexican capital, he was received by Maxiliano Reyes Zúñiga, Subsecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of the host country.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador today received his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, to deal issues of common interests.
According to the Cuban Presidency on Twitter, López Obrador received the Cuban leader in an official ceremony that took place in the National Palace.
The National Palace is located in the Historic Center of Mexico City and is the headquarters of the Federal Executive Branch of the United Mexican States.
According to the Mexican agency Notimex, the two leaders are expected to discuss cooperation for the development of their respective nations in areas such as health, education and sports.
Cuba and Mexico established diplomatic relations in 1902, and since then these ties have been maintained uninterruptedly.
