Cuban Foreign Minister attends Meeting of the Association of Caribbean States
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, heads the Cuban delegation to the 24th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).
The Chancellor of the largest of the Antilles arrived Wednesday in Managua, capital of Nicaragua, venue of the meeting that precedes the 8th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Association, to be held on March 29, according to a note released today by the local chancellery.
It adds the document that Cuba intends to reiterate its commitment to the process of revitalization of the ACS, and the willingness to continue contributing to the cooperation programs developed within the framework of the regional organization, which will soon celebrate its 25th anniversary.
uring the discussions taking place at the conclave, account will be taken of the financing and mobilization of the necessary resources to face the consequences of a phenomenon that greatly affects the region, especially the small island states.
Other issues such as the mobilization of people, sustainable tourism, a collective tourism policy and disaster risks are common to the 31 states and 10 associate members that are grouped in the ACS, according to a report from the Latin Press headquarters.
The ACS Summit will session under the slogan Uniting efforts in the Caribbean to face the consequences of climate change, hence an important part of the discussions is around the challenges posed by the effects of climate change for small island states and others with Caribbean coasts.
The meeting is attended by the 25 member states and nine associates, as well as representatives from 17 observer countries and six international organizations, including the European Union, the Caribbean Community, and the Central American Integration System.
The 8th ACS Summit also comes to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the creation of the organization, whose main objective is to serve as a mechanism for consultation, cooperation and concerted action in the field of trade, transport, sustainable tourism and natural disasters in the Caribbean area.
