Cuba maintains zero tolerance for drugs, says Cuban Foreign Minister
Bruno Rodriguez, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said today on Twitter that Cuba maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards the drug production, consumption and trafficking.
The results of our country in the prevention and confrontation of drug trafficking and money laundering, and in the international cooperation to confront this scourge, show the political will of the State, the diplomat added through the social network.
A recent article in Granma newspaper pointed out that the Largest of the Antilles seized 2,438 kilograms of drugs last year, mostly marijuana, coming from suspicions caused by international drug trafficking operations that did not have the Island as a destination. This is the least amount of drugs occupied in the last three years.
Similarly, the Border Troop Command has maintained the exchange of information in real time with anti-drug services in the area (United States, Jamaica, Bahamas and Mexico) and they continue investigations to ensure the necessary evidence and request through operational cooperation, extradition and criminal prosecution of Cubans living abroad who promote these operations so that they do not go unpunished.
According to Granma, international operational cooperation strengthens links with 37 foreign police services, Interpol and other agencies, based on the exchange of information, the promotion and development of cooperative investigations and mutual legal assistance.
The results of 2018 confirm Cuba’s absolute commitment to achieving a society free of illicit drugs, as a vital element in achieving sustainable development and the well-being of our people.
