Cuba has a new National Electoral Council
Havana, Cuba – The deputies ratified the candidacy presented by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez to integrate the National Electoral Council, a permanent body with the mission of organizing, directing and supervising the electoral processes in the country.
The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raúl Castro Ruz, was the first to exercise suffrage, to elect Alina Balseiro, as President, Tomás Amarán as Vice President, and María Esther Bacallao as Secretary.
In order to function collegially for a period of 5 years, the National Electoral Council is composed of 21 members, who have an average age of 53 years, and 13 of them with experience in previous electoral processes.
Diaz-Canel stressed that the members of that institution will be in charge of conducting the electoral processes with the transparency and ethics that distinguish Cuba.
