Cuba climbs to fifth place in the medal table in Lima

Lima, Peru. – Cuba has gone beyond expectations for today in Lima 2019. The Cuban delegation won 3 gold medals on Wednesday to dawn in the fifth place of the Pan American Games, thanks to 18 gold medals, 13 subtitles and 17 bronze prizes.

Wrestling opened the agenda with two kings in the Greco-Roman style, the leader Ismael Borrero and the powerful Gabriel Rosillo; while Daniel Gregorich, Yosvanys Peña and Luis Orta were left in bronze, the latter surprised by an incredible setback seconds before the end of his first bout.

Juan Miguel Hechevarría brought the other crown, expected, but with a record without luxury in the long jump of 8.27 meters, and Rose Mary Almanza fulfilled the forecast of a silver in the 800 meters flat.

During the day, Leonel Suarez and Briander Rivero finished fifth and eleventh in the Decathlon; Roxana Gomez advanced to the final of the 400 meters, and Adriana Rodriguez is second in the Heptathlon.

An unexpected bronze was won by Harold Rodriguez in the Sabre, second medal for Fencing; his brother Hansel reached the Round of Eight, while Yamirka Rodriguez and Ceily Mendoza advanced to Quarters in the foil.

Dariel Leyva reached the final of the Single Hand in the Basque Pelota, as did Yasmary Medina and Leyanis Castillo in the double Frontenis; Jeidy Pradera was fourth in the Cycle Time Trial, Arlenis Sierra suffered a mechanical failure, and Pedro Portuondo arrived in twelfth place.

Elisbet Gamez showed her greatness, fifth in the 200 freestyle of Swimming despite suffering from dengue a few weeks ago; and the Archery teams lost in the Quarterfinals.

The rowers advanced to the finals in the 8 disputed modalities; and in the Sailing the only good news continue arriving by means of the mixed boat of Nélido Manso and his daughter Iris, stable within the first 5.
