Havana, Sep 16 (RHC) José Fidel Santana Núñez, vice head of the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma), heads our country’s delegation to the 38th ordinary session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is being held from September 16 to the 20th at its headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
As every year, the General Conference, its most democratic and representative body, brings together high-ranking officials, governmental experts and representatives of all member States.
The main objectives are: to consider budgetary and mandate-related issues of the Agency and to take decisions on issues raised by the Board of Governors, the Director General and member States.
Our delegation is also composed of Ambassador Juan Antonio Fernández, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the International Organizations, based in Vienna, members of Citma, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission in Austria.
At the same time as the General Conference, a Scientific Forum on issues related to nuclear science and technology is periodically organized.
On this occasion, Cuba will also participate in the Forum entitled “A decade of action on cancer control and the way forward”, on 17 and 18 September.
Cuba is a founding member of the IAEA, with which it has maintained close, fluid and active cooperation.
Technical cooperation projects are currently being developed according to identified national priorities in areas such as radiation safety, food and agriculture, human health and nutrition, water and the environment, and energy and industry.
