Agriculture in Cuba under new regulations

In an effort to improve the functioning of agricultural cooperatives, the Ministry of Agriculture approved new legal standards contained in Decree-Law 365, published today in Official Gazette No. 37.

The director of Cooperative Development of the Ministry, Ricardo Monzón, informed that these measures will come into effect within 6 months, time in which all the people related to the different productive bases will be trained.

He stated that the approval of Decree-Law 365 has as its main objective to reorder the existing legal dispersion on agricultural cooperatives and put all actors in the production scenario on equal terms.

Ricardo Monzón pointed out that he also adds new principles for the proper functioning of cooperatives in the peasant sector.
The New in the Norm

The maximum liberation of the productive forces of the agricultural and forestry sector and the creation of favorable scenarios for the development of their activities are among the new elements of the new legal norms approved by the Ministry of Agriculture on Agricultural Cooperatives.

The Legal Director of the branch, Orlando Diaz, explained that Decree Law 365, published today in the Official Gazette, also highlights the role of the contract as a regulatory measure.

He added that the economic regime of agricultural cooperatives is unified with regard to the formation and distribution of funds, based on their own characteristics.

Orlando Diaz stressed that the new legal rules also facilitate access to bank loans, inputs and technology cycles, which, he said, will result in higher yields.
