A Care Center Opened in Los Negros, Contramaestre
Amiguitos de Celia Day Care Center that benefits 150 working mothers, was opened today to commemorate, in Santiago de Cuba province, the 124th anniversary of the combat of Los Negros, fought by Mambi troops on March 7, 1895.
Los Negros District, north of the Sierra Maestra, in the municipality of Contramaestre, opened that institution, whose adaptation requiered the effort of the voters of that community of the Plan Turquino, responding to their concerns.
More than a hundred inhabitants participated in the simple cultural ceremony where, among poems, dramatizations and dances, they remembered the military action that consolidated the independence ideals of the men who had risen, days before in Baire, to restart the struggle for freedom in Cuba.
Jorge Luis Fraga, Contramaestre Governor, said that in the operation, led by General Jesús Rabí and Captain Juan Joaquín Urbina against the Spaniards, a war booty was obtained, given to Antonio Maceo, whose independence example was ratified by the Cubans in the Baraguá Oath.
This pronouncement, which defined the heroic rebellion of the people to resist and win in new scenarios, demonstrates the freedom that the inhabitants of the Island have to build their own future and improve living standards in such intricate places.
Lazaro Expósito, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Santiago de Cuba province, and Beatriz Johnson, provincial governor, both members of the Central Committee of the PCC, attended the opening of the center, which favors 150 mountain families and it provides employment for a majority feminine and young force.
The second edition of the workshop The Young and the Local History, Los Negros yesterday and today, held at the Lorenzo de la Rosa Casas mixed.level center, concluded with five presentations that relive the legacy of the martyrs and heroes of the homeland in this territory.
More than 20 years ago, in this district and as part of the idiosyncrasy of those born here, they celebrate on this date a political and cultural feast that enriches the heritage for future generations.
