Radial Patrimony, Assessed in Contramaestre

The first scientific workshop of a territorial nature was held in Contramaestre to assess the process of patrimony conservation in the radial environment, aimed at preserving the memory for future times.

Radio Grito de Baire, Contramaestre’s radio station was the venue for the event. Local specialists and visitors from Radio Titan, Radio Baraguá and Radio Triple M Oriental discussed realities and challenges of this important mission.

The workshop was held under the slogan: “Radio and its heritage” and as part of its actions, an assessment of the current situation of the media was made and the best experiences developed so far were shared by the main actors involved in their process of preservation, organization and communication.

Audiovisual documents such as radio programs, television, audio and video recordings are part of this patrimony, since they contain key information from the 20th and 21st centuries in Radio Grito de Baire, which is part of the history and cultural identity of Contramaestre.

It is no longer possible to speak only of documents written in the form of heritage, but also of audiovisual documents, since both complement each other and have the same historical value.

Radio en Contramaestre faces the enormous challenge of organizing this heritage, preserving it and communicating it. The radio system in the province of Santiago de Cuba must also do it with the haste and necessity that the new times require, when everything is easily forgotten, amid an amnesia governed by new technologies.
