Mayelín Pupo, the first lady of poetry

Mayelín Pupo Díaz could very well be called the first lady of Baire’s poetry. Born in Contramaestre, municipality of Santiago de Cuba province, she is a kind of synthesis of sports and literature, which radiates sensitivity and art.

Mayelín, surrounded by beautiful ornamental plants and flowers typical from Cuba, defines the scope of her artistic and sports possibilities as an inseparable unit that she easily achieved through daily life.

This tennis athlete of Contramaestre’s court, shows poetry through the physical beauty, sculpted in an athletic body that only sports knew how to shape.

Her memories go as far as to describe the professional relationship with the writer Eduard Encina Ramírez, who was one of her first teachers and critics. Mayelín, the poetess of Baire, confesses that she loves the tenth and shows her works daily in the Literary Workshop “Café Bonaparte” in her hometown.

The “Café Bonaparte” Literary Workshop is the forge where dozens of poets, decimists (ten verses writers) and Contramaestre narrators have been trained. This is the municipal workshop where more books have been published outside the Cuban capital.

The anecdotes of Mayelín Pupo Díaz are part of the series of videos “Poetas de mi ciudad” (Poets of my city). A series made by journalist Juan Carlos Roque Alonso for JUCARO PRODUCCIONES and Radio Grito de Baire TV Online.

The series includes in 12 chapters, the life and work of poets, narrators and decimists of Contramaestre municipality.
