Cañón Don Pepe Club energized as the first day
Between the clouds and a brief sun, the 34th edition of the Cañón Don Pepe Club showed up in the Maffo-Moscú District, belonging to the municipality of Contramaestre, in eastern Cuba.
Reinier Rodríguez, executive secretary of the Provincial Board of the José Martí Cultural Society in Santiago de Cuba, and many illustrious visitors met at the usual headquarters of the Club, the courtyard of Orlando Pantoja Tamayo Memorial House.
Sublime joy at hearing Rodriguez’shis words when he said: “José Martí District has three times as many clubs as the Consejo Martiano de Contramaestre, but the latter carries out more cultural actions every month.
He also said: “…in the 35th edition of Cañón Don Pepe, a provincial prize will be awarded, but it is a special surprise”. That is why he invited all the participants not to miss that day, because they will know who it is.
When the afternoon was taken by the bolero in the manner of Alfredo Amado Vigo and the applause was nurtured, spontaneous, broke to rain, but no one left. The classroom of the Olitos gathered everyone and there was a hand to hand between Martha Cardoso and Virgilio Estrada to pure and joyful poems; of songs between Amado Vigo and Mirla Rosales; of homemade drinks, refreshing, tasty, of food cooked in silent homes, where the national soul lives.
The torrential downpour started proposals and Benedicto Enamorado, president of the Popular Council Maffo-Moscú, honorary member of the Cultural Society José Martí, proposed to carry out the first annual meeting of Martí lovers’ clubs, as part of the actions, for the bicentennial of the town of Maffo and to make it a permanent event every year. The initiative won unanimous applause.
Efrén Ortega, a well-known troubadour, member of the Taburete group and of the David Club, presented a project whose main purpose is to reach the centenaries of Contramaestre, so that they feel remembered and useful. There was a commitment to support it by October, since the 1st of that month will be the Day of the Elderly.
“Cañón Don Pepe is on its way to 35,” said Martha Cardoso, but it retains the impulse and energy of the first day, something that the people are grateful for, because negative energies are released there, and experiences and joys are shared.
